How does the Prenatal Gender Test work?

It has been known for some time that even from the earliest stages of a normal pregnancy, small amounts of DNA from an unborn fetus are able to find their way into the mothers bloodstream. Using a drop of the mothers blood from a painless finger prick and exquisitely sensitive detection techniques, we are able to determine whether any of the foetal DNA is derived from the Y chromosome - a DNA region that is only present in males. If this DNA can be detected in the mothers blood, then she must be carrying a male child. If there is no male DNA present, the child must be female. The techniques used are extremely accurate, with one recent large-scale scientific study which followed thousands of pregnant women finding that it had a 99% accuracy rate. We are so confident of the accuracy of this test, that we provide a full money-back guarantee in the event of a false result.

Can Nimble Diagnostics help me to calculate the important dates for my pregnancy?

Our Pregnancy Date Calculator estimates the important dates for your pregnancy. In order to use the calculator, you must know either the date of the first day of the last menstrual period, or the baby's projected due date (as calculated by your health provider). An important date to note is the eligibility date - to do this test you will need to collect samples on or after this date.

To use the Pregnancy Date Calculator, simply select 'First day of last menstrual period' or 'Baby's projected due date', enter the applicable date, and click on the 'Calculate Dates' button.

How is the sample taken?

Once we receive an order, we will send a simple home test kit for sample collection to you free-of-charge. Following the instructions included in the test kit, a small drop of blood is collected from the mother by a painless finger prick. Once this is done, the test kit is sent back to us, and the sample will be analysed and results sent back to the orderer either by mail or email.

How accurate is the test?

The Prenatal Gender Test is extremely accurate - the results from thousands of women have shown that the accuracy is greater than 99%. We are so confident of the accuracy of this test, that we provide a full money-back guarantee in the event of a false result.

Does the Prenatal Gender Test replace an Ultrasound?

No. This test does not replace an Ultrasound. Ultrasounds are important for monitoring the health of the baby during pregnancy. Our test is a service and makes no medical or health claims.

What happens if I get an inconclusive result?

Can I use the test if I have a multiple birth pregnancy?

What are the important things to look for in a testing company?

There are several DNA testing companies offering what look like very cheap tests, however, NOT ALL DNA TESTS ARE OF EQUAL QUALITY. To avoid getting an incorrect result from your test which could have devastating consequences, always ensure the following:

  • The testing company is fully accredited, preferably by international accreditation bodies such as the AABB, ISO 17025, and NATA. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17025 is the world standard in the certification of competence of testing and calibration of medical diagnostic laboratories. ISO 17025 certification ensures a high level of competence and compliance for the certified laboratory, ensuring that testing is undertaken by professionals. The AABB also certifies laboratories, and runs a accreditation programme specifically for high competence levels in parentage testing. Nimble Diagnostics' lab is accredited by both bodies.
  • Many companies have hidden costs. They will lure you in with the promise of a cheap test, then charge you extra for shipping, for rapid results, or even to provide a copy of the results. Nimble Diagnostics guarantees that you will pay NO MORE than the advertised price - shipping of the test kit, results, and testing is all included.
